Our editorial policy.

Every legal answer on AskSolon is written for a stressed human first, sourced from primary law, and reviewed by a licensed attorney before it goes live.

How we write

We start with the exact question a person searches, answer it in the first few lines, and then explain. We use short sentences and plain words. We do not pad, we do not use scare tactics, and we do not pretend a hard question has an easy answer.

How we source

Legal claims are grounded in primary sources: statutes, court rules, and official state and federal materials. When a guide states a deadline, a fault rule, or a damages limit, that specific fact comes from the law of a named jurisdiction.

We never print unverified legal specifics

Statute callouts, such as a filing deadline or a comparative-fault rule, appear on a page only when we have verified the law for that jurisdiction. Until a jurisdiction is verified, those specifics are suppressed rather than guessed. We would rather show less than show something that might be wrong about your rights.

Attorney review before publishing

No legal answer ships without review by a licensed attorney. Each published guide shows a named author and a named reviewing attorney with a bar number and the date it was last updated. You can see who reviews our work on the reviewers page.

Updates and corrections

The law changes, and so do our pages. We review content on a schedule and update the "last updated" date when we make a substantive change. If you spot an error, tell us and we will look into it. When we correct something material, we fix the page rather than quietly leaving it.

Advertising and independence

Our educational content is written independently of any firm's listing. A firm cannot pay to change what a guide says, and paid placement never alters our legal explanations. Read more in how we vet attorneys and our attorney advertising notice.
